Saewara

Greater Deity - Great One

As with the rest of the Five Great Ones, Saewara is not only exceptionally powerful, but unique in the way she operates. Unlike most gods who reside in their home plane of existence, Saewara is a goddess who walks among mortals. By imbuing her entire power and essence into the legendary blade, Judgement, she essentially creates a divine token using all of her power. Through this process, the blade becomes sentient with her godly powers and will. Every 20 years in the islands of Uroda, a ceremony called Keisho is held to select the next wielder of the blade. Women and girls ages 15-30 undergo three days of trials and selections before the title of Saewara is passed down. Whoever is selected adopts the name of the goddess, as whoever is attuned to Judgement gains the power, will, and mind of the goddess. For the next 20 years she will rule Uroda and carry out Saewara’s will as she speaks to them through the sword.

The Great One typically focuses on allowing the wielder to govern and protect the nation of Uroda first, but also may venture out in times of extreme imbalance. Saewara's goal is not to rid the world of all evil, but instead to maintain the balance of good and evil that will remain forever. All gods fear Judgement, as it is the only known weapon a mortal can wield that can slay a god.

However, it comes at a cost. After attuning to the sword, the welder of the blade’s mind cannot keep up with the divine energy that the goddess has imbued into it. In 20 years, the user loses all sense of self and succumbs to a peaceful death, laying to rest and becoming one with Judgement. The mortal who adopts the title of Saewara is a token of worship for many paladins and clerics worldwide and is exceptionally powerful due to having an entire nation of followers. Many city or town guardsmen may bear the sheathed sword crest of the goddess or offer her a prayer before making an arrest.
