The Abyss

"Pray to your gods all you want. Amidst the chaos, the only god here is me." - Maldir

The Abyss is a fathomless never ending pit filled with chaotic evil demons. Like the Nine Hells, it is split into layers, with the difference being that the Abyss has no end in sight. Each layer down becomes more and more dangerous, with incredibly unforgiving terrain and beyond bloodthirsty creatures. The power structure is constantly shifting with the demons being at a never ending war with another. Rather than having a set ruler for each layer, powerful demons will attempt to conquer as many layers as possible. Those who are successful are given the title of “Demon Lord.”

Demons within the Abyss do not accept any style of law or rule, save for one. Infinitely deep into the plane sits Maldir, the god of chaos. All creatures of the Abyss bow to him, heeding every beck and call that their chaotic evil god may give them. This status marks him as “the One Below All,” or more commonly, “the Demon King.” The demiplane that he is sealed within is called the Magnus Profundus, which has no entrance nor exit. Regardless, Maldir is still able  to exert power and influence throughout the planes through other means. His prime objective is to break free from the Abyss and spread chaos throughout every plane indiscriminately.

When a mortal soul from the material plane ends up here, it is either due to having a chaotic evil nature, or by being taken in the Fugue plane by a demon. If the former is the means of entry, the soul will fall down the layers of the Abyss until they are caught by a Snatcher Demon. These creatures’ purpose are to catch souls strong enough for the respective layer that they are on. For example, a weak soul will be caught almost immediately near the uppermost layers, but a strong soul will plunge further down until they're caught further into the depths.
