Dragons in the land of Helia are extremely magical beings, a concept well known and understood. In ancient times, their magical prowess would become so powerful to the point where it leaked out into the planes, creating sentient life. Evil dragons would see this as a weakness, and eventually learned to hone their magic to prevent this creation of inferior imitations of their power. Good dragons believed that the process of creating dragonborn should be a willing act, and honed their magic in a similar manner as their evil counterparts. Neutral dragons did not hold either of these sentiments, allowing dragonborn to naturally sprout through their leaking power. In modern day, dragonborn are either descendants of natural ancestors, created intentionally by dragons, or are the result of a creature of another race obtaining enough draconic power to become a dragonborn.

The personality of a dragonborn varies based on their origin and type. Chromatic dragonborn tend to be evil, metallic are more good, and gem dragonborn are neutral. Descendants of ancient dragonborn are more likely to resist the nature of their origin type, while created dragonborn are rarer and tend to be more strictly aligned. Lastly, dragonborn can be found in any plane, as dragons are not tied to the Prime Material Plane.
